It was a blur of luxurious lace, beautiful beading and the steady pulse of bass-heavy music at Mikael D’s closing show on Friday evening. The show took place where it all begins, at the tents in downtown Toronto’s David Pecaut Square, as attendees put on their best to bid adieu to Toronto’s final World MasterCard Fashion Week of 2013.
The first model walked onto a dark runway, bathed in dots of light, wearing a voluminous midnight blue gown. The collection was romantic in every sense of the word. Intricate lacework, delicate beading, feminine necklines and exposed or dropped backs made each piece fit for a princess. Ranging from cocktail dresses to high-low hemlines to full-length gowns, Mikael D covered all the bases: party-perfect, sweet and sexy, high-fashion and the perfect touch of drama. His use of bright greens, sky blues, champagnes and the forever-stylish inclusion of white has guaranteed that we will all be waiting for the arrival of spring/summer 2014 with bated breath.
