Last night celebrities flocked to the Much Music headquarters on Queen’s street in Toronto for the annual blowout party celebrating the music industry’s finest and of course showcasing the very best of Canadian talent. Beliebers came through again as JB won favourite artist of the year (no surprise there), and K-pop wiz man, PSY co-hosted the anticipated music event.
The Much Music Video Awards’ now infamous red carpet is known for its fan pandemonium as well as for being home to some crazy moments in pop culture history. The actual award show quickly morphs into a large block party concert at one of the city’s busy intersections.
When it comes to fashion and memorable red carpet moments, the MMVAs never disappoint. Unlike other award shows, the MMVA red carpet offers the stars a more fun playground to opt for fun trendy styles, or go all out with a very avant-garde wardrobe choice. The fashion rules for the MMVAs are that there are no rules- but this is definitely not an haute couture kind of fashion event.
This year it seems as though the guests somewhat resisted the temptation to push that fashion envelop that the MMVAs are so known for, and instead stayed on the classy and fun side of the spectrum.
All lack of wardrobe malfunctions aside, the event still saw some great red carpet moments!
Here is a recap of last night’s best dressed:
America’s sweetheart and first time MMVA attendee, Taylor Swift moved away from her usually traditional red carpet wear and opted for a sexy Herve Leger white mini bandage dress with black contours. Paired with gladiator wedges and her signature red lip, this country singer was definitely one of my favourite looks of the night.
Canada’s favourite Pretty Little Liar, Shay Mitchell sizzled in a Clover Canyon floral crop top and matching mini skirt. Shay looked absolutely amazing and the hot ensemble showed off her tight figure and stayed on trend with floral and geometric mix of patterns in a chic summery hue.
Another Pretty Little Liar star, Lucy Hale dazzled the crowd of onlookers in an off white A-line mini by Amen, cleverly paired with bright metallic fuchsia pumps. This playful and stylish ensemble was a perfect red carpet choice for this TV darling.
Another hit last night was Demi Lovato‘s little black dress by Saint-Laurent. Although the dress covered her arms and the upper half of her body, its short mini skirt elongated this starlet’s silhouette, and showed off those amazing legs. With just enough glitter, this look embodied classic LBD with a modern twist.
