CAFA Announces Canada’s first National Arts and Fashion Industry Awards GALA

Yesterday, Chic Darling got wind that The Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) will be having their first awards gala on February 1st, 2014 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto. This gala will celebrate the Canadian arts and fashion community and recognize their achievements and emerging talent. CAFA has ten categories that will recognize talent from across the country and we cannot wait to see who the winners are. The categories include:


  1. The Womenswear Designer of the Year
  2. The Menswear Designer of the Year
  3. The Outstanding Achievement
  4. The Accessory Designer of the Year
  5. The Canadian Style
  6. The Image Maker
  7. The International Canadian Designer
  8. The Stylist of the Year
  9. The Model of the Year
  10. The Emerging Talent


The Emerging Talent award has a self-nomination process, “while all other nominees will be submitted and selected y the CAFA nominating committee, led by philanthropist, fashion enthusiast, and designer devotee, Sylvia Mantella”. To nominate yourself for the Emerging Talent award, you can visit All final award winners will be decided by the CAFA jury.


The Awards Presentation on February 1st will bring together nominees, special guests, and the best of the best fashion personalities. It will also include a gala dinner and an exciting after-party celebration with live music and special performances. There will also be quite a few smaller CAFA events held leading up to the wards to promote the nominees.


Nominees will be announced at a special ceremony in October, and winners will be selected through a confidential vote by the CAFA jury in January 2014. Confirmed members of the CAFA jury include Jeanne Beker, Suzanne Rogers, Lisa Tant (VP, Fashion Editor Holt Renfrew), Noreen Flanagan (Editor-in-Chief, Elle Magazine), Bernadette Morra (Editor-in-Chief, FASHION Magazine), Tiyana Grulovic (Fashion Director, Flare Magazine), Robert Ott (Chair of the School of Fashion, Ryerson University), Susan Langdon (Executive Director, Toronto Fashion Incubator), Dr. Sara Diamond (President of OCAD U), Glenn Baxter (Canadian television journalist and former host of Fashion Television), Carolyn Quinn (Head of IMG World Canada), Bronwyn Cosgrave (best-selling author, broadcaster and luxury brand consultant), Hans Koechling (Fashion Show Producer and Creative Director of The Image Is), Angela Campagnoni (Director, Atlantic Fashion Week), Tyler Udall (Photographic Artist & Fashion Director Blanche Macdonald Centre), Jean-Francois Daviau (Producer, Montreal Fashion Week)
